Woman indecently assaulted on Peterborough train

The British Transport Police are appealing for information after a woman was touched indecently onboard a train between Biggleswade and Sandy.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, which took place onboard the 19:23 First Capital Connect service from Kings Cross to Peterborough on Tuesday, 24 January.

PC Karl Palmer, the investigating officer, said: “After the train left Biggleswade, a man sat next to the 34-year-old victim touched her inappropriately a number of times, making her feel uncomfortable to the point where she left her seat and moved into another carriage.

“Fortunately there was an off-duty police officer onboard the service who offered his assistance and detained the man until the train arrived at Peterborough, where BTP officers met the train on platform 4.”

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.

He was released on police bail to return on Wednesday, 22 February pending further enquiries.

PC Palmer added: “Our investigation is ongoing and I am urging anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward.

“If you were on the train at the time of the incident and have any information that could assist the investigation, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information can call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference B7/LNA of 31/01/2012. Or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
