Disabled woman films Bristol carer Amanda Parker robbing her...two years after she filmed another carer doing the same

The Daily Mail reports:

A disabled woman has caught a carer stealing from her purse using a hidden CCTV camera – the second time she has trapped a thief in the same way.

Lorraine Andrews filmed Amanda Parker stealing from her on four occasions 16 months after catching out another carer, Jane Hoy.

Yesterday Mrs Andrews, who uses a wheelchair, said: ‘I must either be the unluckiest person in England, or this sort of thing must be rife.

‘I couldn’t believe it when I noticed money going missing.

‘She was employed as one of my carers because I am severely disabled and require a considerable amount of assistance with everyday living. She was put in a position of trust to help me and instead took advantage of my disability and need for support. She saw me as an easy target. I am devastated.’

Mrs Andrews can live independently at her home in Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol, but needs help from two carers. She had been receiving care from Freedom Socialcare staff since last November.

But when she put £140 in an envelope so repairs could be carried out on her laptop, some of it went missing. Laura Opie, prosecuting, told Bristol magistrates: ‘She had used a small CCTV camera to catch the previous carer, so decided she would do it again.

‘She set it up in the living room and from March 9 to March 14 Parker is seen on the CCTV going into drawers, going through papers and taking money out of her purse – £80 had been taken.

'Ms Andrews was extremely upset that it was Parker who was stealing from her, as she had built up a level of trust with her carer.'

When Parker was arrested police found opened envelopes and ripped up birthday and thank-you cards in her car. They belonged to another woman who Parker cared for, Catherine Moss, of Redland, Bristol.

In a victim impact statement, read to the court, Ms Moss said she felt 'violated' that her personal correspondence had been opened and ruined by someone she trusted.

Heavily-pregnant Parker, 26, from Bristol, was given a 16-week suspended prison sentence and told to undergo supervision after admitting theft. She must also pay £100 compensation to both her victims.

The court heard that Mrs Andrews had caught Hoy stealing from her purse in November 2009.

Hoy, 49, of St Anne’s, Bristol, who worked for Stepping Stones to Independence, was given a four-month suspended jail sentence in January last year after admitting four counts of theft totalling £125 and four counts of attempted theft.

It's disgusting that Amanda Parker and Jane Hoy got a lighter punishment than people who looted from JJB during the riots.

These two pieces of scum should be jailed for one year each and then made to do 500 hours of community service.

They should also be banned from working with vulnerable people and be made to pay back the FULL amount of money, not just £100.

I'm furious with this sentence.
