Arthritis Care challenges young people to design a school bag

Mature Times reports:

Just in time for the half term break, Arthritis Care is launching a challenge for young people to come up with a design for a rucksack that will make school life easier for young people affected with arthritis.

One in every 1,000 school-age children has juvenile arthritis, which can really hurt and cause stiff, painful joints, including those in their hands and arms.

So a big problem they face daily is heavy school bags, which often have fiddly fastenings, stubborn zips and tricky buttons.

The competition is open to all 12-16 year olds until November 11, 2011 and can be found here...

A rucksack template can be customised online with easy-to-use drawing tools or, alternatively, the rucksack template can be printed out and designed free hand.

The judges are looking for a creative bag design which will mean young people with arthritis experience less pain every time they open, close or carry it.

The winner will have their design made into a real bag, which will be presented to them by star of BBC’s Dick and Dom’s Funny Business, Kelly-Anne Lyons, who not only developed arthritis in her teens, but is Arthritis Care’s Celebrity Supporter for young people.

The winner will also enjoy a day at the Design Museum in London.
