It is interesting how none of the people who want to cut benefits for disabled people are opposing the Government's proposals to set up a £250m fund for restoring weekly bin collections.
I live in a house of 4 and we manage very well with our green bin being collected once a fortnight. Most of our waste is recycled in the blue bin or composted.
Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles told the Evening Standard he believed every household in England had "a basic right" to have their rubbish collected every week.
"Weekly rubbish collections are the most visible of all frontline services and I believe every household in England has a basic right to have their rubbish collected every week," he said last night.
Personally, I believe that every citizen who is unable to work through illness has a basic right to be looked after, and that people have a basic right to good public services.
Apparently there is no money left for this, but enough to be wasted on ensuring weekly bin collections.
I am aware this was a manifesto promise, but it was a very silly one.
