I love the Daily Show, but not its audience

I do like watching the Daily Show on More4 each night.

Although the Global Edition on Mondays is a waste of time for those who watch it on other days of the week, the "proper" episodes are still witty.

They mock the hypocrisy of American politicians and point out important problems with the American media, while remaining funny throughout.

Jon Stewart is simply wonderful, the chocolate tiffin of American television with a host of wonderful correspondents.

However, the Daily Show audience - and I feel terrible for saying this - is ruining the show.

Their loud whooping every time Jon Stewart cracks a joke causes the opening few minutes to be almost painful. Stewart took to saying "Settle down" several times during the coverage of the Republican National Convention.

Every time a correspondent appears ready for a satirical interview, the audience act like Britney Spears has entered the studio. They holler for ages while Stewart and the correspondent wait for the racket to die down.

I know that American audiences are more animated than British audiences, but shows such as Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond (true, the latter is the television equivalent of removing hairs from a dirty plughole) don't have excited whooping every five seconds. The Daily Show is also aired outside of the USA.

Dailyshow.com problems:

You could argue that I should stick to the clips on the Daily Show website - except I can't view them any more.

The clips simply don't load, although the Flash on the rest of the page plays fine. It is probable they are region blocked. If you live outside of the United States, have a try - and let me know if you can play them (especially if you had to make changes to your PC/Mac beforehand).

You can however watch them if they are embedded on blogs (there are a few on this one) so have a search around the net. You can see a recent one on Sarah Palin and the "gender card" here.

The Daily Show audience needs to settle down. Otherwise the show will be ruined.
