Would the killing of 30 rabbits over a year be shocking if it had happened in a British town as opposed to a German one?
While 300 police in the towns of Witten and Dortmund are hunting a rabbit killer, Britain seems to be full of animal torturers, many of them teenagers.
It is true the police fear the rabbit killer may move on to attacking humans, but then animal cruelty is a recognised sign of future serial killers, so you could say that about many animal cruelty cases, including a fair few in the country.
Today in the Daily Mail, you can read about Oink the buffalo being protected by CCTV because of feral teenagers.
No doubt some people would say that we aren't giving yobs enough respect and it's our fault for not engaging them.
I'd like to feed those idiots a mixture of mustard and detergent so they can feel Oink's suffering.
You can donate to Oink's cause here.
Earlier this year, ducks were pelted with bricks by yobs - no doubt they'll get off with a fine and an ASBO. Perhaps a Socialist Workers Party spokesperson will appear on television blaming the police for the duck attack.
The ALF and SHAC are silent as usual - they only go for causes that will grab the headlines. If they'd like to come to to stand guard over Oink and fight off yobs, that might be a start.
More must be done to protect defenceless animals - who cause less harm that the majority of humans. If that means more prison sentences, so be it.
